Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz recently took a bullet in the arm and was evacuated to France for medical treatment.

The authorities in Nouakchott have played down the incident, suggesting it was an accidental shooting at a military checkpoint outside the capital, Nouakchott.

Mauritanian President Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz is presently undergoing medical treatment in a French hospital for bullet wounds sustained when his convoy came under fire at a military checkpoint outside the capital, Nouakchott.

The government has said it was an accident, as the Mauritanian leader was returning to the capital from a weekend in the hinterland without his normal escort.
