Ghana’s police say they have seized a big quantity of weapons entering the country from neighbouring Ivory Coast.
A statement from Ghana police service today said the weapons include AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, which were on board a truck.
The weapons were concealed in cow peas.
Three persons, including the driver of the vehicle, were arrested by the police in the northern Ghanaian city of Kumasi. The nationalities of the three were not immediately known.
Police said this is the largest interception of weapons they have made, and investigations are going on.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian police have secured court’s permission to have the three men detained until they are formally charged.
