Leaders of the sub-regional bloc, ECOWAS have told Guinea Bissau’s military junta, which overthrew the civilian government on April 12, to restore the National Assembly.

The ECOWAS leaders made the call at their extraordinary summit on Thursday in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.

They said the return of the National Assembly shall lead the way for the election of a new President to lead the transition

The President of the ECOWAS Commission Kadre Desire Ouedraogo has told Guinea Bissau’s National Assembly to go ahead and to vote a new interim President.

According to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, the main objective of the Dakar extra-ordinary summit is to find solution to the problems of both Guinea Bissau and Mali.

Meanwhile, the West African heads of state and governments have called for an immediate restoration to constitutional order in both Mali and Guinea Bissau.
