Tons of timber seized in campaign against illegal loggingApril 11, 2012
A campaign to track down people engaged in illegal logging activities is underway in the Ivory Coast.
The country’s Ministry of Forestry has seized several tons of timber from illegal loggers.
By the year 2000, Ivory Coast is said to have had a total forest area of 7,117,000 hectares, with the natural rain forest making up the main forest area.
The authorities say there is a program in place to protect tree species in the country and they are calling on citizens to join in the fight against illegal logging.
WADR’s Abidjan Correspondent Suy Kahofi reports.
