Protesting Malian soldiers seize state radio, TV
Protesting soldiers of the Malian army have taken control of the state-owned broadcaster, Malian Radio and Television Office (ORTM), WADR's correspondent in the capital, Bamako has confirmed on Wednesday.
He however said, the soldiers have not been able to reach the fortified State House of President Amadou Toumani Toure, which is guarded by a heavily armed segment of the army.
The soldiers' protest is fueled by disenchantment with the trend of a raging rebel war in the north of the country.
WADR's correspondent Abdoul Karim Ba says sporadic shooting by the rampaging soldiers and the heavy military presence has sent many scurrying from the streets of the capital, Bamako.
