Row over US$30m bail for Ghana business tycoon
A Ghanaian business tycoon, Alfred Woyome who was last week arrested for allegedly defrauding the government to the tune of over US$30m, has been granted bail by the country’s High court.
Woyome was arrested ten days ago for questioning after he was indicted by an interim report by the Economic and Organized Crime Office.
It investigated the payment of some 51 million cedis or over US$30m judgement debt the business tycoon.
The alleged fraud, which has taken Centre stage in Ghana, mainly in the media, has generated much interest from Ghanaians, as WADR’s Accra Correspondent Kofi Agyepong reports.

But at the same time, the Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has described the 54 million Ghanaian cedis bail granted Mr. Alfred Woyome.
Mensah Bonsu said the value of the bail was a bit smaller than expected, considering the gravity of the case and the public interest it has generated.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker insisted that he was not concerned about the bail, but how to get the alleged conspirators of the judgment debt to book.
