Ghana: Oil firms worried, amid Ivory Coast border demarcation talks

December 7, 2011

Reports from Ghana on Tuesday spoke of uncertainty in demarcation of offshore boundaries with neighbouring Ivory Coast, which have oil deposits.

Calls have been made for immediate steps to be taken to redefine boundaries between the two countries, in order to prevent an outbreak of dispute.

The calls come as Ivorian authorities, who reportedly produced a map supporting their claim, are said to have been meeting with some oil companies in Ghana, ordering them to stop their operations.

Kwasi Nantwi, former Editor of the Ghanaian Chronicle newspaper in Accra has been telling WADR’s Ayanava Zananidu that oil companies operating in Ghana are now worried.
