Johnson-Sirleaf upbeat, as oil exploration begins in Liberia
As oil exploration officially begins off the Liberian coast, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has expressed optimism about the success of the project.
The Liberian leader was speaking over the weekend, when she visited facilities of the Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, marking the official launch of oil exploration in Liberia.
The visit included a tour of the Anadarko oil rig, the Discovery Spirit.
President Johnson-Sirleaf was accompanied to the oil rig by the U.S. Ambassador to Liberia, Linda Thomas- Greenfield and other officials, who were taken on a guarded tour of the facilities.
Meanwhile, a statement from the Liberian presidency received by WADR, says Johnson-Sirleaf has completed the nomination process as a presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.
