Sierra Leone joins others against small arms
June 14, 2011Sierra Leone joins other countries around the world in celebrating the global week of action against gun violence.
The Sierra Leone Action Network on Small Arms in collaboration with the campaign for Peace and Non-Violence in Sierra Leone are marking the week with series of activities.
Activists in more than 60 countries are joining the global week of action against gun violence to draw attention to the human cost of gun proliferation and misuse.
According to the International Action Network on Small Arms, about one thousand people are killed every day from gun violence and more than three thousand worldwide suffer varying injuries.
It said 900 million guns are in circulation and most of them in the hands of civilians.
