June 23, 2011Senegal's President Abdoulaye Wade has withdrawn his controversial constitutional amendment bill, after a violent street protest that rocked the capital, Dakar on Thursday.
The constitutional amendment bill, which called for the scrapping of the absolute majority vote for the presidential election in favour of simple majority, is being strongly resisted by the opposition and civil society groups.
