Spain gives 1m Euros to lift W, Africa rural women
July 16, 2012The Spanish government has provided one million Euros to empower rural women in West Africa, under a project that will run for two years.
The Business Incubator for African Women Entrepreneurs (BIAWE) will nurture the business ventures of rural African women operating primarily in the area of agriculture while supporting initiatives in economic capacity building, promoting rural entrepreneurship and developing agricultural resources.
9 oil blocks awarded to several firms by Sierra Leone

Cholera epidemic in Guinea: 41 deaths, 655 cases recorded

A Cholera epidemic has killed 41 people in Guinea, as authorities struggle to contain some 655 cases reported so far.
Guinea’s Minister of Health and Public Hygiene Dr Naman Kéita made the disclosure to Journalists in Conakry at the weekend.
Strong South African woman, Dlamini-Zuma elected AU Chair
July 16, 2012The African Union (AU) has elected its first ever woman Chairman, former South African Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
At the 19th AU summit in Addis Ababa, Ms Dlamini-Zuma beat incumbent Jean Ping of Gabon, after a closely fought contest for the chairmanship of the continental body on Sunday.

July 13, 2012Armed, masked assailants abducted and beat a veteran journalist in Mali on Thursday, leaving him with a broken hand and other injuries. And the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has condemned “this brutal attack on Saouti Labass Haïdara and are deeply concerned that it comes in retaliation for L'Indépendant's critical reporting."
Nigerian gov’t condemns latest suicide blast at mosque

There has been another suicide bomb attack in Nigeria, this time a mosque has been hit in the northern city of Maiduguri on Friday.
The government of President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the blast, which killed five people at a Mosque toward the end of Friday prayers.
WADR’s Abuja Correspondent Martins Martins says the targeting of the mosque came as a surprise to many.

African jurists see fighting corruption as an uphill task

Fighting corruption was at the center of an international colloquium, which has just ended in Cotonou, Benin, which was held under the theme, "The legal and judicial systems of the French-speaking space against the problem of corruption."
