Liberia: Campaign trip halted by pres guard's shooting death

Reports from Liberia say a presidential security guard has been shot dead in the northeastern city of Ganta, 274km from the capital, Monrovia.

Local media reports say the body of one of the security agents of the presidential Special Security Service (SSS), George Williams was discovered Friday night with bullet wounds at a presidential residence.

Senegal opposition protest, despite govt ban

Despite an earlier government ban, a coalition of opposition political parties and civil society groups in Senegal went ahead with their street protest in the capital, Dakar at the weekend.

The group under the banner of the “M23” Movement staged their anti government rally in central Dakar on Friday, vowing not to allow incumbent President Abdoulaye Wade to run for another term, as anti riot police looked on.

Guinea: Opposition protest against new polls date banned

Guinean authorities have banned the opposition coalition’s demonstration slated for early next week.

In a decree, the Governor of the Guinean capital, Conakry forbids the the demonstrations planned to start on September 27.

The children’s charity, Plan International says girls around the world face “double discrimination,” in a new report released on Thursday.

According to the report titled, Because I am a girl, research shows that girls are more likely to suffer from malnutrition, forced into early marriage,   be subject to violence and trafficked as well as forced into the sex trade or get infected with HIV.

Mali-China bridge opened in Bamako
