S. Leone: Koroma invites opposition to join rebuilding efforts
November 26, 2012Newly-elected President Ernest Bai Koroma has call on Sierra Leone’s opposition parties to join him in rebuilding the country, still recovering from over a decade of civil war that ended in 2002.
Koroma said the job at hand requires the goodwill and positive energy of all political parties, noting that democracy and good governance must transcend all forms of division.
Liberian MP criticizes Blair for Pres. Sirleaf’s pat

Ivorians, French in joint military exercise
November 26, 2012A joint military maneuver is underway in Cote d’Ivoire involving the French military and Ivorian government forces.
Military officials say the joint exercise with the French is necessary because the current Ivorian army has faced repeated attacks from subversive armed groups in parts of the country.
Sierra Leone: Koroma re-elected president with 58.7%
November 23, 2012Incumbent President Ernest Bai Koroma has won the presidential election, pulling 58.7 % of votes cast, while main challenger Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio got 37.4 % of the votes, according to results released by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Friday.
NEC said Koroma of the All People’s Congress (APC) got 1,314, 881 (58.7%) of the valid votes, winning a second five-year term, while main opponent Bio of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) got 837,517 votes (37.4%) .

Incumbent President Macky Sall held a number of top posts in Wade’s government, including serving as Prime Minister.
Sierra Leone Gov’t Calls For Calm, As Poll Results Delay
November 23, 2012The government of Sierra Leone has called on citizens to remain calm and continue to promote peace and national reconciliation as the nation awaits the results of the 17 November elections.
It said these were necessary to continue to attract investors to participate in the country’s rapidly growing economy and its democracy for the improvement of the lives of Sierra Leoneans.
S. Leone: Police quell youth riot, impose curfew in east
November 23, 2012Police in Sierra Leone have intervened to quell clashes between youths of the country’s two leading political parties and imposed a curfew in the eastern district town of Kailahun.
Normal activities were disrupted in the town as youths of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) and the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) clashed four days after voting generally passed off peacefully.
Gbagbo supporters enraged, not surprised at Simone’s warrant
November 23, 2012Supporters of indicted ex-Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo are enraged, but not surprised at the arrest warrant issued against his wife Simone Gbagbo by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The ICC said the former Ivorian First Lady was wanted for alleged crimes against humanity committed in the wake of violence after the disputed presidential elections in 2010.
Mali PM faces protest for rebel dialogue remarks
November 23, 2012Malian Prime Minister Cheikh Modiba Diarra is facing criticisms for a recent statement made in Burkina Faso about talks with rebels occupying northern Mali.
Diarra had said the Malian government was open to dialoguing with the rebel groups MNLA and Ansar Dine as they were Malians whose views needed to be heard.
S. Leone: Early results show ruling APC ahead
November 21, 2012Early provisional unofficial results from last Saturday’s election in Sierra Leone show that President Ernest Bai Koroma and his ruling All People’s Congress Party (APC) are leading from votes counted thus far.
However, there are indications that with the current trend, the elections may be headed for a possible second round.
