Mali getting ready for the 2013 July elections

In Bamako, the organizing committee of the July 2013 elections held its first meeting. They discussed about setting up a biometric voters’ register.

Guinea on alert for meningitis epidemic.

Guinea is struck by a meningitis epidemic. The Health Ministry stated 28 deaths on the 212 recorded cases among the 15 prefectures affected. Meanwhile cholera has resurfaced with 60 declared cases and 3 deaths in the prefecture of Mamou.

The local elections are coming up soon and the US-based National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) launched the monitoring of the code of conduct of the political parties. The Code of conduct of the political parties, the political coalitions and candidates to the elections is a mean of promoting democratic values.

Liberia: Ivorian refugees in no rush to leave their camps

A growing number of refugees living into the neighbouring country fled the violence at home discouraging their return. Most of refugees in UNHCR convoys declined to continue the trips to Ivory coast citing the security constraints. Some of them are now likely to stay in Liberia for the foreseeable future.

CAR:Seleka takes over, media institutions are looted

After the fall of the Bozizé regime and the Séléka rebellion take over, the country went through scenes of looting particular in the capital, Bangui. The media institutions went not spared, several of them saw their equipments stolen. It is the case of radio Ndéké Luka, the most popular media of the country owned by the Hirondelle Foundation, a Swiss organization.
