Senegal: Presidential hopeful promises to end Casamance crisis in 500 days

In Senegal, the season for lots of promises from politicians is around the corner, as presidential election is just a few months away.

The leader of the opposition Senegalese Workers and People’s Party, Maitre Elhaji Diouf says if elected in the February 2012 polls, he will resolve the long-running armed rebellion in the southern Senegalese region of Casamance in just 500 days.

The first annual Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-I) is underway in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The three-day conference, organized by the by Economic Commission for Africa, ECA’s African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC),  is expected to provide a forum for dialogue, awareness raising so as to mobilize effective commitment and actions on climate change by African stakeholders, an ECA press statement said.
